I know of several people currently working in this area. You might
start by looking up papers by J. Lawler at U. Wisc.
Also, a really good review article by
K-U Riemann was published only a few years ago concerning the Bohm
criterion and sheaths. I don't have that reference handy, but a related
one is:
"Consistent analysis of a weakly ionized plasma and its boundary layer",
K-U Riemann, J. Phys D, 25, (1992) pp1432-1442.
from which I believe the review article is: J. Phys D 24, (1991), p493.
