                  Alcator C-MOD Weekly Highlights
                        July 25, 1995

The scheduled maintenance period is continuing at Alcator C-MOD.  Systems
reassembly in preparation for the fall operating period is well underway.

The cryostat was closed and sealed last week. Pressure testing was
successfully completed. Operation of the cooling valves and lines was verified
with N2 gas from the vaporizer.

The CRYO PLC processor has been changed to a newer, faster model. The scan
time with the new model has decreased from about 180 milliseconds to about 15
milliseconds.

Half of the second tier of igloo blocks have now been replaced. Vessel heater
control boxes, which mount on the igloo, are being reconnected.

About half of the new halo rogowski coils have now been installed. Work is
proceeding on the remainder.

Leak checking and fitup for the Divertor Thomson Scattering optical head were
completed. The unit has been sent back to Dirk Dimock at PSI for final
installation of the optical components, following which it will be returned to
M.I.T. for installation inside the C-MOD vessel.

The new EF4 supplies (old Alcator C supplies) were loaded on trucks and are
now in transit from Livermore. They are expected at the local riggers this
week.  Fabrication of the new EF4 power room bus work is complete and the
straight sections have been installed. New switchgear to be used for the RF
systems, also transferred from LLNL, is now onsite.

C-Mod has been integrated with the PPPL-based TRANSP code development system.
Using network file transfers, we are now able to receive code updates on
demand.  We are also able to share with the global TRANSP community the locally
implemented modifications integrating TRANSP with MDSplus.  Analysis of C-Mod
data is continuing.

Amanda Hubbard spent two days at Tokamak de Varennes discussing reflectometry
issues. Martin Greenwald attended the ESNET steering committee meeting in
Napa. Miklos Porkolab participated in the TFTR Review at PPPL. Bob Granetz
attended a one-day workshop on TPX diagnostics at Princeton.
