Subject:
Geiger Tube Gases
Organization: CCI Networks, a division of Corporate
Computers Inc.
We repair sensors that are used in oilwells
logging.
Some of the older tools use makes of Geiger tubes that
are
no longer available. The most common mode of failure
is degassing. We
would like to repair these tubes ourselves
or have them repaired. These
tubes are usually measuring
gamma radiation.
Does any one know
the answer to any of the
following:
1. What gases are used in geiger tubes for downhole use?
2. And at what pressure?
3. Does anyone repair geiger tubes
commercially?
We attempted using air at a partial
vacuum. It worked, but not very well.
The temperature range that downhole
tools operate in is 0 to 175 DEGC.
These tubes are typically 1 to 2 cm in
diameter and operate at about 700 volts.
Any help would be
appreciated.
