Eight out of ten outer divertor modules
have been installed in
the machine.
Work on the remaining modules is complete, and they have
been
inspected and approved for installation.
These modules will
be installed as work on the edge Thomson
scattering system and the
prototype divertor cryopump is completed.
All tests of the divertor cryopump in the
vacuum test stand are
finished.
The pump is currently installed in the divertor mock-up where
the
300K shield and divertor pressure gauge tubing are undergoing
fitups.
Work on a variety of engineering and
diagnostic systems
continues. All
glow discharge insulators are in house and have begun the
vacuum bake out
process. A full system test will be
done in the
vacuum test stand before any components are installed
invessel. All
clamps and spacers
needed to install both the glow discharge components
and the diborane
manifold have been fabricated and are being cleaned
and electro-polished
prior to installation. An invessel test
fitup of the
manifold was completed successfully. TORVAC wiring is complete and
PLC/PARAGON
programming for the new foreline pump is ready to be tested.
The ECE rack
has been moved back to the diagnostic stand extension and
new cabling is
being installed. The strain gauge
cables have
been installed and the floor and inner divertor modules and
tiles over
the gauges and cables have been re-installed. The retro-reflector mount
for the
tangential interferometer has been fabricated and is being cleaned
and
electro-polished. The LN2 cooling
manifold box has been sealed.
Rapid
progress continues on the edge Thomson Scattering system.
The laser beam
enclosure in the laser room is complete.
Construction has
started on the final section of the igloo beam
enclosure. The interlock
system design is complete and installation has
started. The
AFOL/DFOL racks are complete and are being installed. The
alignment of the
beam optics has been confirmed invessel. The alignment of the polychromator
is
complete and preparations are being made for its calibration. Focus tests
of the beam optics are
planned for the end of this week or early next
week.
A quarterly review of the Alcator C-MOD
program was held at
MIT on 6/19.
Besides presentations from C-MOD personnel, Bill Rowan of
the
University of Texas presented a talk on the DNB and associated
diagnostics
Texas is planning to install, and Joel Hosea from PPPL discussed
the
MIT/PPPL collaboration. Rostom Dagazian
represented DOE.
Bob Granetz
was at the ANS conference in Reno Nevada and gave an
invited talk on
"Design Issues for Tokamak Reactor Divertors".
