10th IEEE Real Time Conference 97
                           BEAUNE97 - FRANCE
                         September 22-26,1997

Second  announcement and  call for abstracts

1. SCOPE AND SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME

The Xth IEEE Real Time Conference (IEEE- NPSS Technical Committee on
Computer Applications in Nuclear and Plasma Sciences) will be
organized in France during the Autumn 97 under the auspices of the
Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique (CEA) and Institut National de
Physique Nucleaire et de Physique des Particules (IN2P3/CNRS).

The conference will be devoted to the "Impact of modern technologies
in Real Time systems" for small as well as large present and future
scientific embedded apparatus or experiments. Various areas will be
covered from Nuclear Physics, High Energy Physics, Astroparticle
Physics, Astrophysics and Plasma Physics. Links to similar application
of such techniques to R & D in medical, biology, aerospace and other
industrial disciplines are encouraged.

Topics cover recent developments and progress in well established but
also in emerging technologies :

      - Real time requirements and technologies
      - Architecture paradigms of Real Time systems
      - Data acquisition systems and Triggers
      - Data transfer and fast networks
      - Critical data processing for embedded systems
      - Software engineering, prototyping and modelling
      - Design of safety critical applications
      - Databases for real time systems
      - Real Time distributed applications
      - Remote control
      - Industrial Standards and trends

An exhibition of new products by companies active in the various
fields will provide a valuable meeting ground for vendors and users.

2.ORGANIZATION AND GENERAL INFORMATION

This topical conference will be organized into plenary and poster
sessions.  For each topic a review talk of about 30 minutes will list
the state of the art and the pending questions. For contributed
papers, the maximum time for oral presentation will be 20-25 minutes
(discussion included).  Contributors to the conference, for both oral
and poster sessions will be requested to submit an abstract.

In addition to the programme, four half-day tutorials will be offered
during the first day of the conference. Likely course subjects include:
      - Switching technologies
      - Real Time kernel
      - Processor clusterisation : state of the art
      - Java

The ESONE annual committee meeting will also take place the first day
of the conference.

3. SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS AND SUMMARIES

Preferably submit your abstract via the Web from URL :
http://www.in2p3.fr/rt97/

or send the filled template below via e-mail to rt-97@in2p3.fr

Submission requires an abstract of a maximum 200 words and a summary
of up to 500 words written in plain ASCII format.

4. DEADLINES

- February 1st, 97 :    Second circular-call for abstracts
- April 1 st :          Deadline for submission of abstracts
- June 1st :            Notification of the acceptance and publication
                        of the draft programme
- August 15th :         Participants receive their inscription and
                        hotel reservation

5. CONFERENCE FEES

The cost of the participation in the conference will be 2500 French
Francs (around 450$) before August 15th and 3000 FF afterwards. This
includes registration fees, proceedings of the conference, coffee
breaks, lunches, social events and the conference dinner.  A reduction
of 500FF is granted to IEEE members.

6. CONFERENCE LOCATION

The conference will be held at the Palais des Congres de Beaune,
France.  In the heart of famous vineyards, Beaune is the capital of
Burgundy wine and gastronomy. As a city of art, Beaune features real
treasures including fortifications, roman churches, town mansions, old
houses and museums. All of them illustrate the spiritual and cultural
adventure of this French province deeply rooted in the heart of
Europe.  The shining roof of its Hotel Dieu, the fiery color of its
varnished tiles are one of the most famous sights in France.. All the
old town is car free and you will enjoy walking in the typical
medieval streets. This charming little city is located less than 150
km from Lyon and Geneva and is only 2 hours by the fast train (TGV)
from Paris and its International airports..
