The Department of Physics & Astronomy invites persons
interested in graduate
study for the master's degree in physics or
astronomy to apply for 1997-98
University Graduate Fellowships. Award of a
Fellowship will allow the
recipient to pursue a full-time course
of study leading to the Master of
Science or Master of Arts degree with
no obligation to the Department or
University other than to maintain a high level of academic performance.
The Fellowship award for 1997-98 will
be in the range of $8,000 - $10,000
plus remission of tuition. Fellowships are awarded on the strength of
the
applicant's grade point average, scores on the Graduate Record
Examination
(GRE), letters of
recommendation, and optional interviews.

Qualifications: Minimum
requirements for a Fellowship appointment include a
bachelor's degree in
physics or astronomy, an overall
undergraduate grade
point average of 3.60 (4.00 = A), GRE test scores not
less than the 85th
percentile, and three letters of recommendation from
faculty familiar with
your academic performance and potential for success
in advanced studies in
physics or astronomy.
Application Information: Graduate applications, transcripts, GRE scores,
and
recommendation letters must be sent to the Department by March 7, 1997.
