Years ago I'd discussed this with a fellow student who grew up on a farm in
Colorado. It is a well known issue in farming with long wire fences or
metal roofed barns near overhead power lines that substantial voltage is
transmitted to the wire or roof. It was said that a pump had been run for
years by connection to a fence. My guess is that the voltage would be more
likely the result of 60 Hz electric rather than magnetic fields.
