Moving mask for drum sputtering machine?
Organization: Deja.com
We
are considering using a drum type sputtering machine to deposit a
coating
on a long sheet of plastic material. We need to come up with a
moving mask
system that will expose an area about .75x.75 in. . The
roll of material
can be up to 24 in wide and 100s of feet long. A gap
between the parts of
about .125 to .375 in. would be acceptable, and
hopefully enough to give
the mask some strength.
We do this process now on an inline
sputtering machine with a .25 thick
stainless plate with machined openings
acting as the mask. This will
not work on the drum coater because the drum
and the plastic are formed
on a 18 in. radius and would require that the
mask be flexible.
Is it feasable to use a thin, flexible stainless
belt ~24 in. wide with
a pattern of .75x.75 in openings cut into it as a
flexible, moving mask
that would be wrapped around drive rollers to keep
the mask in contact
with the drum?
Has anyone ever seen or
built a system like this?
If feasable, I need to build a system like
this and would prefer to buy
as much off the shelf as possible and would
appreciate any referals to
vendors who could help do this task.
Thanks
William
