An interesting question, perhaps someone at
alt.energy.high-voltage can
answer. Try to find some aluminized mylar
(many chip bags - both potato
and IC, are today) you can ground and
surround your Geiger tube with, to
electrostaticaly shield it.
Perhaps
your plasma globe is producing an electric field, which in turn
is
increasing the bias voltage and counts of the Geiger tube. I have
read
reports of TV screens generating high counts, because they have a
charge
and act as a magnet for all the radon & ionized radio-isotopes
blowing
around in the air.
